Un Oeuf Sur Un Toast

Contributed By Rob Rosenthal

This recipes takes me back to the Sunday breakfast that dad would make for my brother, my sister, and me when we were kids.
1 slice of bread
1 large egg
shot glass (wait for it)
small scoop of butter
some parsley
three or four orange slices
  1. Lightly butter both sides of bread slice.
  2. Empty the shot glass and use the mouth to punch-out hole in middle of bread slice. What a multi-purpose tool that shot glass is!
  3. Put teaspoon of butter in frying pan (medium- high flame) until butter very slightly browns in pan.
  4. Put slice in pan and fry both sides until both sides are very LIGHTLY browned.
  5. Crack egg into hole in center of bread slice.
  6. Fry on each side until done to personal liking.
  7. Garnish with a little parsley and place a few 1/2 orange slices on the side (with a bit of parsley on them as well.)
  8. Call up Dad and tell him how much you luv him.

The bread should be the same regardless of how cooked the egg is. Therefore, if one likes eggs over-easy, be sure to fry the bread a little longer before dropping the egg in.

Serve with glass of orange juice and funnies.Enjoy!

P.S. The little holes of punched out bread make for great little cucumber sandwiches by Mom.

Stains: Egg on your face:
Don't be discouraged. Lick it up or wipe it off with a napkin.

Movies for inspiration: Five Easy Pieces (1970)

Bobby (Jack Nicholson accent): I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.
